The COPA Awards, or Celebrating Outstanding Portuguese Canadian Achievement, were held for the first time in Toronto on October 14, 2004.

The awards were created in order to honour the great achievements of many Luso-Canadians across the country. Six individuals were selected as award winners, and they were  honoured in the areas of: Arts & Culture, Athletics, Education & Academia, Vision and Leadership. The people recognized had excelled masterfully in their fields, and their contributions benefited not only the Portuguese community, but also Canadian society at large.

This is the inspiration for the continuation of these awards.  The PCNC wishes to celebrate individuals who serve as role models and showcase what can be achieved when vision, hard work and commitment are fully embraced. The COPA Awards ceremony is an opportunity to publicly celebrate our successes as a community, and offer inspiration to younger generations of Luso-Canadians.

Os Prémios COPA, ou ‘Celebrating Oustanding Portuguese-Canadian Achievement’, foram atribuídos pela primeira vez em Toronto, no dia 14 de Outubro de 2004.

Os prémios foram criados de modo a poder homenagear os muitos méritos alcançados por Luso Canadianos através de todo o país.   Seis individos foram seleccionados como vencedores, nomeadamente nas áreas de: Artes, Desporto, Educação, Visão & Liderança.  Os vencedores dos respectivos prémios demonstraram grande capacidade nas suas áreas, e as contribuições dos mesmos não benificiaram somente a comunidade Portuguesa como também toda a sociedade Canadiana.

Está é a verdadeira fonte de inspiração para a continuação destes prémios. O CNLC (Congresso Nacional Luso-Canadino) deseja homenagear estes individos que servem como exemplos do fruto daquilo que pode ser alcançado través de visão, trabalho e compromisso. A cerimónia de Prémios COPA é uma oportunidade para homenagear publicamente o sucesso da Comunidade Portuguesa, e oferecer inspiração às gerações Canadianos.
